2022 FoM Distinguished Achievement Award Recipient: Dr. Nadine Caron

 

Dr. Nadine Caron has been recognized for her outstanding contributions in the area of equity, diversity, and inclusion through research, teaching, or service with this year’s Faculty of Medicine Distinguished Achievement Award in Advancement of Equity, Diversity and Inclusiveness.

Dr. Caron is a Special Advisor on Indigenous Health, UBC and Faculty of Medicine as well as the inaugural First Nations Health Authority Chair in Cancer and Wellness. Her scholarly and professional activities overlap with service, in particular for indigenous health issues, with her co-directorship in the UBC Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Health, as well as active involvement in John’s Hopkins University’s School of Public Health and the First Nations Health Authority. Dr. Caron is a recipient of the 2016 Royal College Dr. Thomas Dignan Indigenous Health Award, the highest honour by the Canadian medical profession in Indigenous Health. One of her most significant contributions is the development of UBC’s Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Health. By developing the concept, forming the strategic working group, and leading them through many obstacles when working on the proposal, Dr. Caron converted the vision of the Centre into a reality.
