The UBC Department of Surgery’s Strategic Plan 2026-2030 sets the direction for how we will grow, connect, and serve over the next five years. As the most distributed academic surgery department in Canada, with faculty, learners, and clinical partners embedded across British Columbia, we have built this plan around the reality of who we are: a department whose strength depends on the quality of its relationships across every site, discipline, and role.
The plan is organized around four pillars: Strengthen Engagement and Connection; Foster a Relationship-Based Educational Environment; Advance Research; and Transform Care. Together, they reflect our commitment to building a department where belonging and excellence are not competing priorities, but the same pursuit.
