Bethune Round Table 2022 Wrap Up – Decolonizing Global Health

The Bethune Round Table (BRT) is an annual interdisciplinary meeting aimed at addressing the challenges of providing accessible, high-quality surgical care to marginalized patients in low-resource settings.

By bringing health professionals across a variety of disciplines together, we are able to share strategies and create solutions for improving surgical care to these under-serviced regions.

The Bethune Round Table 2022 took place virtually, June 16 – 19 and was hosted by BGSC,in co-operation with the Canadian Network for International Surgery. The theme for the BRT 2022 was “Decolonization Global Health”.

The conference program consisted of 28 panelists and speakers and 98 abstracts (46 podium presentations and 52 posters) touching upon diverse aspects of global surgery including women in surgery, indigenous health, and sustainability in global partnerships. All sessions were recorded, including abstracts. The conference platform remains open to registered participants for approximately 6 months, so participants can go back to the virtual platform to review talks about strengthening health infrastructures in under-resourced communities and re-watch something they would like to see again or missed.

A big thank you to the Conference Chair, Dr. Emilie Joos and their planning committee for putting on a great conference.

Stay tuned for 2023

The University of Toronto will be hosting the Bethune Round Table in 2023, in person in Toronto, ON.
