$8.1 CFI/BCKDF grant for Diabetes research

The Canucks for Kids Fund Childhood Diabetes Laboratories at BC Children’s Hospital has received $8.1 million from the British Columbia Knowledge Development Fund and the Canada Foundation for Innovation to obtain new state-of-the-art technology to further research into diabetes prediction, treatment and prevention. Members of the diabetes research team in the UBC Department of Surgery at BC Children’s Hospital that were awarded this funding include Drs. Bruce Verchere, Megan Levings, Francis Lynn, Brad Hoffman, and Dan Luciani (all from General Surgery).

“The research enabled by this infrastructure will lead to new ways to predict, prevent, and treat diabetes for the many children in this province affected by this devastating disease”, said Dr. Verchere, who leads the diabetes laboratories.

Childhood diabetes labs, 10 other projects, receive B.C. infrastructure grants
