The UBC Faculty of Medicine Department of Surgery educates students at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, and pursues research to make innovative advancements in knowledge and practice to improve health.
The Department consists of more than 600 physicians, surgeons, scientists and educators and over 70 administrative, research and technical staff in nine divisions.
Specialty training programs are offered in Cardiac Surgery, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Radiation Oncology and Developmental Radiotherapeutics, Thoracic Surgery and Vascular Surgery.
Distributed across British Columbia, our faculty and students are located in our affiliated hospitals including Vancouver General Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital, B.C. Children’s Hospital, Royal Columbian Hospital, the University Hospital of Northern BC, Nanaimo Regional Hospital, and the British Columbia Cancer Agency.
The Department is also home to the Branch for Global Surgical Care. The aim of this unit is to advance surgical care in international health by developing innovative online education programs focusing on surgical care in international health, as well as research and dialogue.
