The UBC Department of Surgery is educating the next generations of leaders in surgical care.

Undergraduate Surgical Education

The Department of Surgery offers a diverse range of specialties throughout the province for MD students in their third-year clerkship as well as the opportunity to participate in electives and gain clinical experience in their fourth year.

Postgraduate Medical Education

The Department of Surgery offers twelve Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons accredited Residency and Subspecialty Programs. The dedicated faculty members strive to provide a dynamic educational environment.

Clinical Fellowships in Surgery

The Department of Surgery’s clinical fellowship programs offer training and clinical experience in various surgical specialties, including Abdominal Organ Transplant, Advanced MIS, Hand and Microsurgery, and Skull Base Neurosurgery.

Graduate Program Opportunities

Graduate education with a focus on surgery can be pursued through programs housed in the Department of Surgery or under the supervision of Department of Surgery faculty members in programs external to the Department.

Continuing Professional Development

A variety of activities and programs are available to support faculty members with their life-long learning through the Faculty of Medicine and partner institutions.

Academic Year-End Celebration

The annual Academic Year-End Celebration is a Department-wide event held every June. It celebrates graduating surgical residents, graduate students, and clinical fellows.
