Title: “Something new about oral cancer”
Guest Presenters: Dr.Catherine Poh & Dr. Kevin Ko
Dr. Kevin Ko is a dual-degree pathologist. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of British Columbia and his medical degree (MD) from Columbia University. He then went on to complete a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at New-York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, a residency in anatomic pathology at Stanford University, and a fellowship in dermatopathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He holds active dental and medical licenses in the United States and British Columbia. Dr. Ko is board certified in anatomic pathology, dermatopathology, and oral and maxillofacial pathology. He specializes in the classification and study of disorders related to the oral cavity and holds a special interest in inflammatory and neoplastic conditions of skin and head and neck.
Dr. Catherine Poh is a Professor, Faculty of Dentistry, University of British Columbia and a Senior Scientist at BC Cancer. Besides being a practicing Oral Maxillofacial Pathologist, she is also the provincial Oral Medicine & Pathology Practice Leader and an active staff member of the Oral Oncology Department at the BC Cancer and the director of the Oral Dysplasia Clinic at the Vancouver General Hospital. Dr. Poh and her team are leading initiative on bringing transformative oral cancer screening, diagnostic, and management to patients having at-risk oral lesions. Her primary research focus involves application of molecular and imaging tools for community screening, early detection, and management of cancerous and precancerous oral lesions.
