Biographic Summary (Background, Academic Interests and Activities, Clinical Activities)
Dr. Layth Mula-Hussain earned his medical degree from the University of Mosul in Iraq and began clinical oncology training in 2002. He later completed a radiation oncology residency at King Hussein Cancer Center in Jordan, an M.Sc. in advanced oncology at Ulm University in Germany, and four years of clinical fellowships in Canada. He is a lifetime ESTRO Fellow, an IAHPC Member, an ESCO Graduate, and a Certified Clinical Investigator.
With over 25 years in medicine—mainly in radiation oncology—Dr. Mula-Hussain has held consultant roles at top cancer centers in Jordan, Iraq, Oman, and Canada. He is currently an attending physician and assistant professor at BC Cancer Agency and the University of British Columbia in Canada, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh’s Regional Adviser for Eastern Canada, and a visiting professor at Ninevah University in Iraq. He also leads the global Ethics-Guided Radiation Therapy (EGRT) initiative launched in 2024.
Notably, he was the founding director of Iraq’s first radiation oncology certification board (2013–2017), contributed to IAEA missions in Pakistan, Syria and Iraq, served on ASCO’s International Affairs Steering Committee, and reviewed IAEA’s radiation oncology education curriculum. He has authored over 100 publications and delivered more than 100 presentations.
