It is my pleasure to welcome you to the UBC Department of Surgery.
We have more than 140 residents and fellows, 600 physicians, surgeons, scientists and educators and over 70 administrative, research and technical staff. We are organized in nine divisions: Cardiac Surgery, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Radiation Oncology and Developmental Radiotherapeutics, Thoracic Surgery and Vascular Surgery and are home to the Branch for Global Surgical Care.
Together, we educate students at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, and pursues research to make innovative advancements in knowledge and practice to improve health. We are particularly proud of our 12 Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons accredited residency programs and both our Certificate and Master of Global Surgical Care.
Distributed across British Columbia, our faculty and students are located in our affiliated hospitals including Vancouver General Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital, BC Children’s Hospital, Surrey Memorial Hospital, Royal Columbian Hospital, Kelowna General Hospital, the University Hospital of Northern BC, Nanaimo Regional Hospital, and BC Cancer. Our education and research programs are supported and enhanced by our strong partnerships with health authorities and community partners.
