Congratulations to Annabel K. Gravely, BSc. (Hons); UBC 2nd year MD student and winner of the 2025 Dr. Nis Schmidt History of Surgery Prize. She presented at the UBC Department of Surgery Grand Rounds on April 9, 2025 on the History of Liver Transplantation. Her talk can be viewed here using a CWL to access.
Dr. Schmidt is a UBC Department of Surgery Clinical Professor Emeritus who has generously endowed an award to stimulate interest and documentation in the history of surgery. A $1,000 prize will be awarded annually to a trainee (either medical student or resident) in the Department of Surgery for the best publishable grade paper on the subject of surgical history. The paper can address a topic of local, national or international interest in any field of surgery – biographical, developmental, clinical, technical, educational and ethical and is open to undergraduate medical students and residents in any surgical discipline.
