Dr. Ahmer Karimuddin Elected the Next President of Doctors of B.C.

Doctors of B.C. announced Dr. Ahmer Karimuddin to be their next president-elect. He will assume his responsibilities in January 2023.

Dr. Karimuddin is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of General Surgery and the current UBC General Surgery Residency Program Co-Director. Additionally, he presently serves as the Co-Chair of the Specialist Services Committee and in the past has served as President of the General Surgeons of British Columbia. As a practicing colorectal surgeon at Vancouver’s St. Paul’s Hospital, his clinical focus has been on colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, laparoscopic colorectal surgery, anorectal diseases, surgical education, and serving hundreds of patients annually.

The healthcare system is in urgent need of redesign. This redesign must focus on creating a truly collaborative healthcare system, which recognizes the value of trust and human relationships.

Formerly President of General Surgeons of B.C., President of the B.C. Surgical Society, President and Chief Negotiator for the Professional Association of Interns and Residents of Saskatchewan, and Vice President of the Canadian Association of Interns and Residents, Dr. Karimuddin has become a seasoned and much admired leader in the community of general surgeons, and the Department of Surgery is certain that his leadership excellence will allow for a fruitful presidency.
