Surgery Grand Rounds

The UBC Department of Surgery Grand Rounds is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

These rounds are typically scheduled on the second Wednesday every month during the academic year (September to June), from 7 am to 8 am, and are held at:

Bios:

  1. Dr. Michael Rizzuto is a PGY-5 Neurosurgery resident at the University of British Columbia. He earned his medical degree at UBC after completing a BSc (Hons) in Kinesiology at McMaster University. He is the current President of the Canadian Neurosurgery Research Collaborative (CNRC) and previously acted as the national resident representative to the Canadian Neurosurgical Society (CNSS) for a 2-year term. He served as the president of the UBC Medicine Class of 2019 over the course of his medical studies and additionally engaged in a two-year term on the board of the UBC Medical Journal as the Director of Publications. His clinical interests lie in cerebrovascular neurosurgery and after residency, he will be embarking on fellowship training in both endovascular neurosurgery (Thomas Jefferson) and open cerebrovascular surgery (UMiami). Outside of medicine, Dr. Rizzuto enjoys playing soccer, running, lifting heavy objects, and exploring the Vancouver food scene.
  2. Dr. Keith Baxter is a vascular and endovascular surgeon at Vancouver General Hospital and serves as the Chief of Surgery at Vancouver Acute Hospitals. Formerly, he held prestigious positions including President of the Canadian Society for Vascular Surgery and leadership roles at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Division of Vascular Surgery and Vancouver General Hospital. Specializing in arterial and venous care, Dr. Baxter focuses on complex endovascular treatment of aortic pathology and has mentored advanced endovascular cases across North America. He completed his Vascular Surgery education at UBC and pursued advanced training in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia. Outside medicine, Dr. Baxter enjoys golf, skiing, cycling, and family time with his two children.
