Sharpening the Scalpels

MuiAkudos2014Congratulations to:

Dr. Alice Mui (General Surgery) who has received a NSERC grant to study Interleukin-10 (IL10) regulation of miRNA maturation. IL10 is a surgeon’s best friend since it is produced by the body at the site of surgical incisions and reduces harmful inflammation. miRNA are special RNA’s that have also been referred to as molecular scalpels. Dr. Mui’s lab has found that IL10 inhibits inflammation by stimulating the maturation of miRNA…..i.e., sharpening these molecular scalpels.
