Cutting-edge Health Care Launches in the North

Led by Dr. Nadine Caron (General Surgery), funding has been announced for Phase 2 of the Northern Biobank Initiative. This is the first biobank of its kind in BC and will improve access for BC’s northern population to participate in, and reap the benefits of, clinical research that will improve disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment in specific communities. It will also enable Northern BC to better contribute to large-scale provincial and national research into understanding the demographic and genetic makeup of different populations throughout the province. Genome British Columbia, Northern Health Authority, the First Nations Health Authority, Provincial Health Services Authority and the BC Cancer Foundation together contributed $1.25 million to this initiative.
News release was issued across the province in April, 2016.
