Dr. Nadine Caron , (General Surgery) has received the Dignan Award from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. This award from Canada’s highest medical body, recognizes Dr. Caron’s many contributions and accomplishments in the field of indigenous health.

Special video on Dr. Caron:

Dr. Nadine Caron: “I’m often asked what it feels like to be the first female First Nations graduate from UBC School of Medicine and that means a lot; I was the first, not because I was special, but because of where we are in society in Canada. I think it’s made a lot of people reflect on the fact that we need to focus on increasing the numbers – not only of First Nations females, First Nations physicians, First Nations surgeons – but also just the representation of Indigenous Peoples in Canada’s health care professions across the board.”
